Small Home Office Décor

If you follow me on Instagram and are one of my loyal IG story viewers, then you've watched as I slowly transformed my 3-bedroom duplex in Washington, DC from bland, boring, and cluttered to a minimalist mix of mid-century/bohemian sanctuary. This time around, I decided to give my home office space a makeover. Since my duplex's square space is lengthier than width, I have an odd amount of space in between my living room and dining room. When I first moved in, I tried putting a couch in that space, but it still felt so awkward as a common area. Around the time I was home for 2 years due to a work-related incident, I thought that this would be a perfect space to create a home office. My initial home office décor catered to the fact that there were 3 children in the house. A larger desk was needed to get work done but, since my family dynamic has changed and downsized and with me creating a workspace for my son in his room, I wanted to turn this particular space into something that screamed "LAVONDRA."

Let me introduce you to my marigold mom-prenuer cove. You'll find this accent color throughout my entire duplex, and it honestly is such a bright and beautiful color to experience. With an ample amount of natural light, the rooms adorned with this color exude such a peaceful glow. In my journey to live a more minimalistic lifestyle (because deep down, I'm a hoarder) the cleanliness of white and brass add a special touch to the décor inspo. So enough doting on my living space, let's jump into the details of my home office space.

Because this space is super awkward and small I wanted to separate it from the living room and the dining room while still giving an even flow to walk through. My older and larger desk used to sit right against the wall but for this new cute and smaller desk, I placed it sideways so you can get a definite feel of where the office starts and ends.

Now let's get into the furniture and décor. I found this white and gold framed reversible desk on Amazon and had it in my cart for weeks. I treat online shopping just like I would do shopping in stores. I like to browse and look around just in case I find something a little better or the actual piece at a lower price. This desk really jumped out at me because of the "S" shaped framework on the side. My last name begins with an "S" so it would be the perfect signature piece. I also like the fact that this desk is reversible so if by chance that way I positioned it did not work on one side, flipping it wouldn't be a problem. The office chair was given to me as a gift about 5 years ago and will be switched out soon with something a little more comfortable.

On top of the desk, I have of course my white HP all-in-one touch screen computer. If you're working with limited space in your home office an all-in-one computer is perfect to keep your area from feeling cluttered. The top of the desk extended out a little beyond the frame which made a perfect space to attach my mic stand. The shelves below were spacious enough for me to add my gold letter tray and file organizer that I picked up at my local Target. To add a bit of character to the top of the desk I did what I do best. I went to Marshalls and found a ceramic vase, a small gold picture frame, and a wooden plaque that reads "Coffee in one hand, Confidence in the other". Like I mentioned before, my home décor style gives a mix of Mid-Century Modern a touch of Bohemian so I found a fake wooden digital clock at Target and it gave me life. The Pampas leaves also came from Amazon and you can check out everything I purchased from the app on my Amazon Store. The brass table lamp was a gift from my dear friend Tia Newton and I'm not too sure where she got them from but here is a look-alike that might interest you.

I knew that the desk and its placement would throw off the balance of the entire lower level so incorporated a woven rug and a square storage ottoman which I picked up just by chance at my favorite Marshalls. I love multifunctional furniture pieces and it is perfect to store my excess printer paper and other office necessities that would make the area feel jammed packed. I also am using an end table I bought from Marshalls about two years ago to place my printer on top of but I plan to switch that out with the perfect size file cabinet. Once again a multifunctional piece of furniture that adds to the workspace. The beautiful floor-length mirror from Wayfair is perfect for adding extra light in from the windows and for creating a subtle border to separate the office from my dining room. The plants are visible when taking mirror pictures and add a bit of aesthetic to my selfies.

This is by far my newest favorite part of the duplex coming in second to my guest bedroom. I hope you found some inspiration to upgrade your home office. I find that I work better in a space that I love and feel comfortable in and I'm sure you will too. Why shouldn't you love your office especially if you work from home in it.
